Pentamethylcyclopentadienyl molybdenum oxo dichloride

Brick-red ( -C5Me5)Mo(0)Cl2 is paramagnetic and sensitive to dioxygen and water. Dry samples may be stored in the absence of air indefinitely. The NMR (400 MHz, CDCI3 solution) shows a very broad signal at 36.8 ppm. The infrared spectrum shows an intense absorption band at 932cm [v(Mo=0)]. The mass spectrum (El, 70 eV shows the parent ion at mje 319 ( (CjMe5)( Mo)0( Cl)2 ).
