Patient Safety Indicator VIII

This patient safety indicator is concerned with deaths in low-mortality diagnosis-related group (DRG) and is expressed by 

Og = the number of discharges with disposition of deceased. pg = the number of all discharges in DRGs with less than 5% mortality rate based on National Inpatient Sample data for 1997 (United States). 

Trauma, immunocompromised state, and cancer are not included in this safety indicator.
