Patient Safety Facts and Figures

Some of the facts and figures concerned, directly or indirectly, with patient safety are as follows  

Each year in the United Kingdom 0.3-1.4 million patients in the National Health Service hospital sectors are affected by adverse events [7,8]. 

At any given point in time, over 1.4 million people around the globe suffer from infections acquired in hospitals [9]. 

In 2008, the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) reported that preventable medical-related injuries in the United States are on the rise (i.e., about 1% a year ) [10]. 

The cost of mediation errors to the US. economy is estimated to be over 7 billion per year [11].
