This book is principally concerned with the chemistry of aromatic heterocycles, however mention must be made of the large body of remaining heterocycles, including those with small rings (3- and 4-membered). Most of the reactions of saturated and partially unsaturated heterocyclic compounds are so closely similar to those of acyclic or non-heterocyclic analogues that a full discussion is not appropriate in this book, however in this chapter we discuss briefly those aspects in which they do differ - perhaps the most obvious aspect in which they differ from aromatic heterocycles is in having sp hybridised atoms, i.e. in the exhibition of stereochemistry ...
