Palladium bond lengths

The structural determinations on a number of these palladium dppm dimers have been carried out and the palladium-palladium bond lengths are summarized in Table 2. 

PdF2 is that rare substance, a paramagnetic palladium compound, explicable in terms of (distorted) octahedral coordination of palladium with octahedra sharing corners [15], It exists in two forms, both having /zeff 2.0 /xB, rather below the spin only value for two unpaired electrons. Bond lengths are Pd-F 2.172 A (two) and 2.143 A (four) in the tetragonal form (rutile structure).

Sherer et al.32 carried out systematic DFT calculations (DFT = density functional calculations) on the compound in question and on pertinent simpler compounds. They optimized the geometric structures and compared the computed bond lengths and bond orders. These authors, too, chose the oxidation state II for the central palladium atom.

A structural determination on (11 Scheme 7) showed an Rh—Pd bond length of 2.594 A, which is indicative of a metal-metal bond.88,91 One of the ruthenium-palladium complexes has been isolated and shown to have the structure (12a), where the palladium-ruthenium bond length is 2.66 A and the P RuPd angle is 74.7°.90... 

Palladium-nitrogen bond lengths for a variety of amine complexes are given in Table 4.

Palladium, Platinum, (a). Synthetic and Structural Studies. In the last 10 years, primary emphasis has been placed on the reaction chemistry of the 1,1-dithio Pd and Pt complexes. The crystal and molecular structure of the Pd(Et2 Dtc)2 complex has been reported (30). The compound is x-ray isomorph-ous to the Pt(II) analogue, for which the crystal structure was reported previously (12). The expected four-coordinate planar coordination of the Pd(II) ion is characterized by a Pd-S bond length of 2.316(3) A. 

Following the successful synthesis of the aryl xanthate complexes, Chen and Fackler reported on the synthesis and structural characterization of the diamagnetic, monomeric bis(0-2,4,6-trimethylphenylxanthato)palladium(II) complex (117). A typical PdS4 unit was found in this complex in which the shorter S2C-0 bond length [1.330(12) A] compared to the Ph-0 bond length [ 1.439(16)] indicates a certain importance of the S2C=6 resonance form in the structure of the xanthate ligand. 

Selected structural data for 3-metallacyclobutanone complexes of palladium and platinum 5, obtained from both experimental and computational determinations, are provided in Table 5. The ab initio structures calculated at the self-consistent field (SCF) and Hartree-Fock (F1F) levels show good agreement with experimental values for the bond lengths of the metallacycle, but these computations deliver somewhat longer Pd-P bonds and smaller P-Pd-P...
