Oxiranes acid-catalysed hydrolysis

The secondary a-deuterium KIEs of 0.97 and 0.95 found for the acid-catalysed hydrolysis of f/mx-3-deutero- and 3,3-dideutero-2-(4-methoxyphenyl)oxiranes, respectively, were taken as evidence of the SN1 mechanism for the formation of the... [Pg.225]

The kinetics of acid-catalysed hydrolysis of seven methylated aliphatic epoxides have been studied. Ethylene oxide shows the lowest rate constant, while compounds with two Me groups at the same carbon atom of the oxirane ring show the highest. Quantum chemical calculations (MNDO, AMI, PM3 and MINDO/3) were used to model the reactivities. [Pg.345]
