The supply of air, which is drawn through the burners by suction, is so adjusted that sufficient oxygen will be present to oxidise the sulphur dioxide subsequently to sulphuric acid and also finally to leave the oxides of nitrogen (see the following) in approximately the composition represented by the formula N203. 

In 1980 he published Mathematical Theory of Combustion and Explosion. 0 These books directly develop the ideas of the 1944 monograph. Besides these, Ya.B. wrote monographs on the combustion of powders and condensed explosives and on the oxidation of nitrogen (see the commentaries to the appropriate articles). 

Another very important distinction between period 2 elements and others is the ready formation of multiple bonds by C, N and O (see Topic C8). Many of the compounds of these elements have stoichiometries and structures not repeated in lower periods (e g. oxides of nitrogen see Topic F5 ).
