Oxidation on Pt-Sn Electrodes

When the electro-oxidation characteristics of the more promising fuels are compared under similar conditions of concentration, electrolyte acidity, and temperature, dimethoxymethane was observed to be more easily oxidized on Pt-Sn electrodes compared with trimethoxymethane and trioxane. The current densities delivered with DMM at any given potential are generally at least three to four times that observed for TMM. When the fuels are compared at 55 C, the performance of trioxane is comparable to that of DMM and TMM with reasonable rate of oxidation occurring. When the Tafel slopes are determined for the three fuels in the region of 0.1 to 0.3 V versus NHE values are in the range of 0.09 to O.IOV/decade. However, at high potential the observed slopes... [Pg.77]
