Oxidation of Starch Derivatives

Oxidation of various starch derivatives has generally been performed empirically to control the functional properties of products, and in general, the structures of such products have not been characterized. 

Oxidation of starch xanthate by either hydrogen peroxide503 or sodium hypochlorite504 gives the xanthide. 503 Patents505,506 have described the oxidation of cyanoethylstarch with 30% hydrogen peroxide at pH 8.5 and with hypochlorite
