Oxidation of octahydroacridine

Cautionl Carry out all procedures in a well-ventilated hood, and wear disposable vinyl or latex gloves and chemical-resistant safety goggles. 

Place the condenser on a second neck and place the nitrogen inlet adaptor on top of the condenser. Turn on the source gas to flush the apparatus with N2. 

Use the wide-mouth funnel to add the 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8-octahydroacridine, sodium bicarbonate, and 1.5 L of methanol. Start the mechanical stirrer and stir the mixture for 5-10 min. 

Add the OxoneR and 600 mL of distilled water. Replace the wide-mouth funnel with the thermometer and its adaptor and stir the reaction mixture at 60-5 °C under N2 for 24 h. 

Remove the heating mantle and allow the reaction mixture to cool to room temperature.
