These results show unquestionably the ability of the organism to oxidize the sulfur of sulfide to sulfate. In addition they indicate the possibility that hydrogen sulfide re-enters organic linkage, probably in tissue proteins. The possibility is in agreement with the reversible action of cysteine desulfhydrase, shown by Smythe and Halliday (114).
