Oxathioles and Selenathioles

Oxathioles and Selenathioles. - The formation of 1,2-oxathiolan (308) by pyrolysis of the phthalimido-derivative (307) has been reported. The 

Yamaizumi, S. Nishimura, K. Wakabayashi, M. Nagao, T. Sugimura, 

3-oxathioles (313) and (315) equilibrate by way of the thiocarbonyl ylide (314). The action of potassium t-butoxide on the chloromethyl 

3-benzoxathiole (319) is lithiated at position 7. Pyrolysis of the benzoxathiolone (320) at 780°C yielded cyclopentadienethione (321), whose photoelectron spectrum was recorded.  

Successive treatment of the selenide (322) with l,l -carbonyldi-imidazole and t-butyl hydroperoxide affords the benzoxaselenolone (323).
