In this section we take a quick look at the chciracteristic spectra of aldehydes and ketones. 

The following list describes the chciracteristic absortion of aldehydes and ketones in the infrared region  

Both aldehydes and ketones exhibit a very strong chciracteristic absorption at -1,700 cm .  

The hydrogen attached to the carbonyl group of aldehydes gives two bands at 2,900-2,820 and 2,775-2,700 cm .  

1 u0 A weak band for aldehydes and ketones is between 270-300 nanometers (nm).
