Other LC-MS-Based Approaches

Chiral chromatography is widely used for the resolution of chiral isomers of eicosanoids and enantiomeric isomers of di- and monoacylglycerols. The technique and its applications were extensively reviewed by Prof. Ian Blair in relation to the targeted analysis of these lipid classes and individual species employing LC-MS [87-89]. [Pg.72]

Ion-exchange chromatography was successfully used to separate lipid classes [90]. Because of the utilization of high ion strength in the mobile phase, it is relatively difficult to directly couple to a mass spectrometer for lipid analysis. However, ion-exchange SPE column could be used for fractionation of lipid classes followed by reversed-phased LC-MS or shotgun lipidomics of a particular lipid class. [Pg.72]
