Organosilicon compounds phenyl groups

It has been confirmed that the availability of such reactions depends upon the existence of the metal-organosilicon compound. The cleavage of disilanes is only possible if there is at least one phenyl group in the compound e.g. it is not possible to cleave hexamethyldisilane. 

In recent years remarkable progress has been made in the chemistry of organosilicon compounds containing a double bond to group 14 and group 15 elements. The reaction of a silylene-isocyanide complex with nitrile oxide generated the intermediate silanone, which with phenyl isothiocyanate afforded 1,3,2-oxathiasiletane 63, which is sensitive to hydrolysis (Equation 10) <2000CL244>. 

Since the preparation of anionic species or organosilicon compounds is largely restricted by its reaction conditions, the synthetic utility of silyl anions for the synthesis of organosilicon compounds is limited. However silyllithiums possessing one or more phenyl groups on a silicon atom are readily prepared by the reductive metallation of the corresponding halosilanes with lithium. Allylsilanes are synthesized by the reaction of allyl acetates with the cuprate prepared from such a reagent (eq (47)) [43]. 

Analogously, starting from appropriate silicon halides or alkoxides and introducing various alkyl, aryl, or alkenyl groups stepwise leads to racemic organosilicon compounds such as methyl-(l-naphthyl)(phenyl)silane297 and methoxy-(l-naphthyl)(phenyl)(vinyl)silane298 which can be separated into their enantiomers.
