Organometallic complexes reaction energies

The bond dissociation energy of fluoromethane is 115 kcal mol , which is much higher than the other halides (C-Cl, C-Br and C-1, respectively 84, 72 and 58 kcal mol ) [6], Due to its strength, the carbon-fluorine (C-F) bond is one of the most challenging bonds to activate [7], A variety of C-F bond activation reactions have been carried out with different organometallic complexes [8], Among them, nickel [9] and ruthenium complexes have proven to proceed selectively under mild conditions [10],... [Pg.192]

In our laboratory we have utilized multiphoton infrared laser activation of metal ion-hydrocarbon adducts to probe the lowest energy pathways of complex reaction systems (6). Freiser and co-workers have utilized dispersed visible and uv radiation from conventional light sources to examine photochemical processes involving organometallic fragments... [Pg.17]

Also, metal ion directed stereoselective syntheses often involve organometallic complexes. While there is no fundamental difference between metal-carbon and metal-heteroatom bonds, modeling rc-bonded ligands is not trivial.1 Given a known reaction mechanism (which is not possible for many catalytic reactions), the main problem is the parameterization of the potential energy functions for the intermediates and transition states. The problem is that force field parameters are generally carefully fitted to experimental results, i.e., structures or other data related to the output of force field calculations of the type of compound to be modeled have to be available. For short-lived transition states this is a considerable problem. [Pg.73]

Insertion of CO into RCo(CO)4 to give acyl complexes is facile (see Mechanisms of Reaction of Organometallic Complexes). This reaction proceeds at 1 atm of CO at ambient temperature. The alkyl-acyl equilibrium lies far towards the acyl complex. The activation energy for the process has been calculated by MO methods to be about 85 kJmol (see Molecular Orbital Theory). Thus, RCo(CO)4 complexes can only be obtained under conditions of low CO pressure, which in turn opens the way for CO dissociative decomposition. Cobalt acyl complexes can be derivatized in several ways to form various products (Scheme 5). [Pg.849]

Kochi s book from 1978 [la] helped to establish electron-transfer and radical reactions as a crucial part of mainstream organometallic chemistry. The importance of such reactions is evident from Astruc s book [lb], still the most comprehensive and authoritative book in the area, and from several reviews and review collections [2] on aspects of organometallic electron-transfer reactivity. This chapter will be fully devoted to the use of electrochemical techniques to obtain bond-energy data for organometallic complexes, a topic that has not been previously reviewed. Aspects of the energetics of redox-induced structural changes and isomerizations, a thoroughly pursued topic, has been reviewed [2o] and will not be included here. [Pg.1340]
