Organolanthanides in Organic Synthesis

The reaction occurs quickly at low temperature, with inversion of configuration at the attacked carbon center. The oxirane is reacting usually at the less hindered site. This reaction has found widespread use in organic synthesis , particularly in the case of stabilized organolithium and alkynyllithium species (see Section IV.B.2). In the intramolecular versions, the presence of BF3 has been reported to modify the regioselectivity". Other Lewis acids such as organolanthanids or LiC104 have also been used to a lesser extent. [Pg.1198]

The most important applications of organolanthanides are as Ziegler-Nutta catalysts in polymerization of olefins and as reagents in stoichiometric organic synthesis. Organolan-thanide compounds are also useful as volatile precursors for MOCVD applications in the... [Pg.473]

A comprehensive review on lanthanocene catalysts in selective organic synthesis has been published by Molander and Romero.37 Petrov et al,39 have reviewed the synthesis, structure, and reactivity organolanthanides RLnX (R = alkyl, aryl X = halogen) and lanthanide compounds with aromatic hydrocarbon dianions. [Pg.163]

Although the polymerization prowess of organolanthanide complexes has been known for some time, efforts to apply these catalysts to small molecule synthesis have only recently begun. The selectivity of these metallocenes is predominantly steric in nature, and they are compatible with a wide variety of organic functional groups. A review of their use in olefin hydrogenation, hydrosilylation, and polyene cydization with emphasis on chemoselectivity and diastereoselectivity is presented here. The various ways in which the catalysts and reagents can be tuned to produce the desired products is also discussed. [Pg.63]
