Numerous reports of organ-on-chip cultures and the organ-like functions established therein have been published (see Table 1 and references in [3]). Figure 3 shows important examples thereof [8]. Properties and functirm by far superior to conventional 2D and 3D culture systems have been demonstrated, indicating that organ-like cell cultures in microfluidic systems indeed hold great potential for in vitro studies that so far have been limited to animal experimentation. [Pg.2619]
