Order, of a group

The total number of symmetry operations in the group is called the order (ft). To determine the order of a group, simply total the number of symmetry operations as listed in the top row of the character table. 

In general, selectivity coefficients can be used to approximate elution order of cations or anions. However, in most cases simple ion exchange may not be the only mechanism influencing selectivity.
