The relationship between kinetics and thermodynamics should also be taken into account. Since this reaction is a reversible one, there is a trade-off between the temperature and pressure of the reaction. At low temperatures, the equilibrium conversions, or maximum attainable conversions are high, while the rates are low as dictated by Arrhenius relationship between the temperature and the reaction rate. Thus, an optimum temperature has to be found.
