Open market access

On the other hand, the NDT service business has evolved towards a more open market, in which the prime contractor requires a transparent access to the data provided by the supplier, in order to ensure the comparison of data obtained from different sources and at different periods of time. Existing fomiats are most of the time proprietary formats released by instrument manufacturers, generally dealing with a unique NDT method and not including complementary information on the acquisition consequently, they fail to meet these requirements. [Pg.922]

Now, these disaggregated linkages need to be substantially and collab-oratively rebuilt, and then sustained in a very open market environment. For this purpose, there is a highly important role for government. Key policy objectives should be to institute and enforce measures to enhance medicines access through public and faith-based facilities in the health sectors within both countries, and to shift procurement incentives towards encouraging purchasing from local suppliers. [Pg.163]

Supiot makes a good point which is particularly applicable to the air transport analogy. The lack of central laws and regulations in market access that would otherwise ensure fairness of competition and worn out perception of sovereignty has made States control market access through a certain parochial protectionism, opening the door for various deals in the market. [Pg.325]

If one side of the coin presents regulation of market access under the GATS Annex, the other side reflects the concept of open skies which conceptually reflects total liberalization of market access. A discussion of what is involved in such an arrangement bilaterally or multilaterally among States is best seen in the open skies agreement between the European Union and the United States. [Pg.338]

In the US context, what is sought by the US carriers are free access to London Heathrow and seventh freedom carriage within the EU for express carriers. In broad terms, the US interests are focused on turning the North Atlantic aviation market into an open skies area giving rise to a common international air traffic market untrammelled by any conditions on market access, capacity and pricing. This would of course exclude the internal US market and any incursirMi into current US policy on majority ownership of US carriers by US nationals. [Pg.344]

Whatever the outcome of the US/EU negotiations are in terms of cabotage for EU carriers and the US rule on ownership and control of its carriers, it seems certain that the two parties could agree on free market access between points in the US and points in the EU along with beyond fifth freedom rights respectively. As a corollary, free market access along with no limitations on pricing and capacity would certainly open up competition between US and EU carriers. [Pg.346]

The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) has opened another market for scrap tires in resilient playground surfacing. Many schools and recreation facilities ate reconfiguring playgrounds to make them more accessible, including the use of resilient surfaces which can be traversed by wheelchairs. [Pg.20]

Entities involved in long-term contracts with electric utihties, such as fuel supphers and NUGs selling power to utihties, also have concerns that some utihties or industrial customers will not be able to honor their contracts under the new, more competitive system. Einahy, some utihties are concerned that they wih not be adequately reimbursed for opening up their transmission systems to competitors. The potential competitors in turn are concerned that utihties whl not provide unbiased access to their transmission systems if the utihties themselves are also in business of marketing power. There has also been some debate regarding which transmission facihties are eligible for open access. This is because some facihties are considered local distribution systems by utihties, which feel they should not be opened to competitors. [Pg.89]

Maintenance "indicators" are available to help facility staff determine when routine maintenance is required. For example, air filters are often neglected (sometimes due to reasons such as difficult access) and fail to receive maintenance at proper intervals. Installation of an inexpensive manometer, an instrument used to monitor the pressure loss across a filter bank, can give an immediate indication of filter condition without having to open the unit to visually observe the actual filter. Computerized systems are available that can prompt staff to carry out maintenance activities at the proper intervals. Some of these programs can be connected to building equipment so that a signal is transmitted to staff if a piece of equipment malfunctions. Individual areas can be monitored for temperature, air movement, humidity, and carbon dioxide, and new sensors are constantly entering the market. [Pg.211]

United States in 1998) from coal (56%), nuclear (20%), natural gas (11%), hydro (8%), oil (3%), biomass (1.5%), geothermal (0.2%), wind (0.1%), and solar (0.02%). Recently, wholesale and some retail markets have been unbundled, allowing competitors to sell electrons with the monopoly utility or municipality providing the transmission service. Open-access restructuring gives customers choices and creates a commodity market in which the lowest-cost electricity wins market share at the expense of higher-cost alternatives. [Pg.598]

We have recently added unique urban formats on both coasts of North America. We opened two stores in Manhattan and a successful urban store in Park Royal, Vancouver. Virtually everything about these stores from their design and layouts to their merchandising selection and use of technology was specifically designed to meet the needs of their local communities and provide us access to an almost entirely new and untapped customer base. These stores demonstrate another opportunity for new store growth by bringing The Home Depot to previously underserved markets. [Pg.54]
