Plinol has been hydroformylated with a heterogenized homogeneous Rh catalyst to give the corresponding aldehyde [139]. Alternatively, a homogeneous PPhj-modified Rh catalyst was suggested by Firmenich [140]. The hydroxy aldehyde obtained by the hydroformylation protocol has a distinct smell reminiscent of lily and can be used with other fragrances for the manufacture of deodorants. [Pg.555]

It is reminiscent of isononanal (3,5,5-trimethylhexanal), which is widely used in perfume compositions. The saturated aldehyde has a fresh-citrus note accompanied by a metallic odor and an undertone of lemon grass. [Pg.557]
