Oleandronic acid

Oleandronic Acid For purposes of oxidation to oleandronic acid, the sirupy sugar may be used. A solution of 2 g. of the sugar in 30 cc. of water containing 9 g. of barium benzoate is shaken with 1.3 cc. of bromine for two days. After removal of the excess bromine by aeration, filtration from benzoic acid, and removal of halide ion by silver carbonate, the sugar acid is extracted with ether in a continuous extractor. The acid is thus obtained as a sirup. [Pg.172]
