3-octylthiophene/3-hexylthiophene copolymers

Reviewed below are random copolymerizations of thiophene, 3-methylthiophene, 3-butylthiophene, 3-hexylthiophene and 3-octylthiophene. The structure of polythiophene random copolymers is reviewed in Chapter 15 in a more comprehensive way. [Pg.471]

Copolymers of thiophene with 3-methoxythiophene and 3-(2-methoxyethoxy)thiophene are soluble, stable and electrically conductive. 3-Hexylthiophene and 3-octylthiophene are attractive comonomers with thiophene for conferring solubility to polythiophenes in the reduced state. There is no hard evidence that the doped copolymers are soluble or fusible. 3-Dodecythiophene is another attractive comonomer, but its doped homopolymer and copolymers are not processable with existing dopants. [Pg.499]
