Oats, celiac disease contamination

Recent evidence indicates that oats do not lead to an immune-mediated response nor to mucosal damage in subjects with celiac disease, Addition of oats to the list of permitted cereals increases choice and would be welcomed by most subjects with celiac disease. However, if oats are to be introduced into the diet they must be from a reUable source to ensure no contamination from wheat, barley, or rye proteins at any stage in the process from harvesting to packaging.
