O-Aminoaryl carbonyl compounds

Benzotriazines (247) can be synthesised by the action of amines on diazonium salts obtained from o-aminoaryl carbonyl compounds (Scheme 60). 

Since 1882, when Friedlander reported (1882CB2572, 1892CB1752) the S3mthesis of quinolines from the condensation of o-aminoaryl carbonyl compounds and enolizable methylene groups (Scheme 1), this method has become more and more popular in azaheterocyclic synthesis. 

A related field involves the formation of anthrazoline, polyanthrazo-line, and polyquinoline derivatives using diketones and di-o-aminoaryl-carbonyl compounds. Vast varieties of pyridines, naphthyridines, and phenanthrolines have also been prepared similarly. 

As example of green-chemistry influencing traditional quinoline syntheses, quinolines can be prepared in an aqueous environment via use of PEG-S03H-catalyzed condensation of o-aminoaryl ketones and carbonyl compounds (13JCS109).
