Nylander’s reagent

Nylander s reagent. Basic solution of bismuth subnitrate and Rochelle salt. [Pg.914]

Aldoses and ketoses, similar to aldehydes, reduce heated Tollens reagent (see p. 210), Nessler s reagent (p. 211), Fehling s reagent [p. 210 see also (55)], and also Nylander s reagent (an alkaline solution of a bismuth salt) and a solution of ammonium molybdate. The reaction with nitro compounds should also be mentioned here. [Pg.306]

Nylander s test is a mere modification of Boettger s, in which the Bi is used in solution. The test solution is made by dissolving 3.5 parts Bi (NOals and 4 parts of Rochelle salt in 100 parts of a solution of NaHO of 8 strength. To use the reagent it is mixed with one-tenth its volume of the urine and boiled. In the presence of glucose a black ppt. is formed. The same precautions with regard to sulfur compounds are necessary. [Pg.379]
