The terebellid polychaete Amphitrite omata inhabits polluted environments containing toxic haloaromatics produced by other organisms such as Notomastus lobatus. It has been shown that its ability to survive is due to the presence of a detoxyfying enzyme, hemoglobin Dehaloperoxidase (DHP) present in two forms encoded by different genes, dhpA and dhpB [1, 2].
