Notes on Large-Scale Production Synthesis Procedures 

Variations in the large-scale plant manufacture of TPU to improve process economics by reducing in-plant reaction time are commonly practised. These include the following variants  

Batch systems using the prepolymer route plus the addition of a catalyst to reduce the chain-extension time and, in particular, to reduce or eliminate the post-curing phase. 

Batch systems using a one-shot synthesis technique, again employing catalyst to reduce reaction times and eliminate post-curing. 

Continuous polymerization using the one-shot system technique with high catalyst concentrations to produce a very short in-plant reaction time and no post-curing.
