Nonbonded distances, regularities

In the only compound of the XX 7 type, IF7, there are seven pairs of electrons around the iodine atom, all of which are bonding pairs. Because there is no valence shell repulsion by nonbonding pairs, the structure is that of a regular pentagonal bipyramid, D5h. The I-Fax distance is 179 pm, whereas the I-Feq distance is 186 pm. [Pg.382]
