Non-rubbery Properties

The heat resistance of a rubber should normally be considered under three types of situation  

in the presence of other active agents such as those causing hydrolysis. 

The second and third of these situations will be dealt with subsequently and comments here will be restricted to in vacuo heat resistance. 

Such heat resistance will depend on three factors  

The bond dissociation energies of the various bonds in the rubber, particularly of those in the main chain
