Non-geometric scale

Scale-up is non-geometric with length/diameter ratios varying from 2 1 to 30 1. The non-geometric scale-up helps to increase heat transfer area as reactor volume increases. [Pg.11]

Pettelkau and Ehrig [36] also described an up-flow reactor for chloroprene emulsion polymerization. Their reactor is operated full with a bottom propeller-type agitator that is mounted at an angle to achieve good mixing without internal baffles. Non-geometric scale-up with large H/D ratios are used to increase heat transfer area in the jacket. [Pg.566]

Good mixing and heat transfer can be obtained without internal baffles if marine propellers are mounted at an angle off the vertical. Such a reactor system is described by Pettelkou and Ehrig (8). They have also suggested non-geometric scale-up to preserve heat transfer surface as reactor volume increases. This Bayer patent (8) claims considerable success in the polymerization of chloroprene which is a system quite prone to flocculation, wall polymer formation and excessive reaction rates. [Pg.136]
