Nomenclature of haloalkanes

Haloalkanes with simple structures are often given a common name consisting of the name of the alkyl group followed by the name of the halide that is, they are named as alkyl haUdes. A few common examples are shown below. 

Haloalkanes are named in the lUPAC system by an extension of the rules we oudined earlier for alkanes. 

Identify the longest continuous chain of carbon atoms that includes the hydroxyl group this is, the parent chain. 

If the parent chain has branching alkyl groups, number the chain from the end nearer the first substituent whether it is an alkyl group or a halogen atom. 

If the compound contains two or more halogen atoms of the same type, indicate them with the
