Nitroglycerine, nitric oxide metabolism

Servent D, C Ducrorq, Y Henry, A Guissani, M Lenfant (1991) Nitroglycerin metabolism by Phanerochaete chrysosporium evidence for nitric oxide and nitrite formation. Biochim Biophys Acta 1074 320-325. [Pg.88]

Identification of the subcellular site for nitroglycerin metabolism to nitric oxide in bovine coronary smooth muscle cells. J. Pharmacol. Exp. Ther. 253 (1990), p. 614-619... [Pg.50]

One of the products the body derives from metabolism of nitroglycerin is nitric oxide, which causes the coronary artery to dilate, thus relieving angina. [Pg.36]

Nitric oxide is released by cells on the inner walls of blood vessels and causes adjacent muscle fibers to relax. This 1987 discovery explains the effectiveness of nitroglycerin and other organic nitrates as treatments for angina and heart attacks, a nearly century-old mystray These substances are metabolically converted into NO, which dilates the blood vessels (see also Worked Example 25-29). [Pg.1170]
