Nitrogen trifluoride hydrolysis

Nitrogen trifluoride is extremely resistant to chemical attack by water and aqueous acid the compound can be recovered quantitatively after one week in contact with excess dilute acid (HNOa, H2SO4, HCIO4) or pure water at 133° C. In the presence of aqueous base, however, slow hydrolysis occurs at 100° C. yielding nitrite and fluoride. [Pg.251]

Kennedy and rolbuni [7a] obtained a small quantity of ditluotoaminc b acting on nitrogen trifluoride willi arsenic at 250 300 (. The best method o making the compound consists in hydrolysis of trityldifluoioamine with sif... [Pg.498]

Nitrogen trifluoride is virtually inert to chemical attack by water at 133°C [1 ]. Another source [2] reports that 1.5% of NF3 reacted according to the equation NF3 + 2 HgO 3 HF + HNO2 when a mixture of 23 mL of H2O and 0.40 g of NF3 was heated to 100 C for 7 d. However, slow hydrolysis occurs at 100°C by aqueous hydroxide solution to give nitrite and fluoride while concentrated NaOH (12N) reacts only very slowly with NF3 [1]. Nitrogen trifluoride is also hydrolyzed very slowly by aqueous ferric chloride solution at 100 C. FeCl3 acts as a hydrolysis... [Pg.218]

Antimony trifluoride is a very hygroscopic, white, crystalline powder. To keep it dry, it is always kept packaged under the atmosphere of nitrogen or argon. Its solubility in water is 384.7 g/100 g at 0°C and 492.4 g/100 g at 25°C [91]. It is also soluble in methanol (154 g/100 ml) and acetone 55.3g/100 ml at 25°C. It goes under hydrolysis in water slower than SbCl3. [Pg.675]
