Nitrogen scavengers

After about 30 min the reaction ceases. At this stage the boron trifluoride and the excess boron trichloride must be removed. One way is to open valve 1 and pump them into the vacuum system (which should have a liquid-nitrogen scavenger trap). It is a considerable advantage of the preparative method that all the reagents and products, except uranium hexachloride, are volatile. [Pg.145]

Of specific interest are issues that relate to the fine interplay between cellular processes and nitrogen scavenging from the environment. Studies of such interactions have shown much progress for some cyanobacteria (e.g., for Trichodesmium, see Section 2.1) but others stiU pose a challenge e.g., very little is known to date as to... [Pg.1074]

The metabolic team was consulted and obtained STAT biochemical labs including plasma acylcamitine profile, plasma amino acids, urine organic acids, and urine orotic acid. Labs showed elevated orotic acid as well as a plasma amino-acid pattern consistent with ornithine transcarbamylase (OTC) deficiency. The newborn screen was normal. The infant was placed on a protein-restricted diet, supplemented with arginine, and started on nitrogen-scavenging medications. [Pg.25]

In the patient who is not dialyzed, protein should be limited for no more than 24-48 h to prevent further catabolism [21]. Some advocate providing essential amino acids even during an acute illness in order to prevent branched-chain amino acid deficiency that can occur with hyperammonemia and be further exacerbated by nitrogen-scavenging medications [28]. There is no consensus about whether protein should be reintroduced in the diet in 24 or 48 hours in acutely ill patients with UCD, and the decision is made by the medical team depending on the patient s ammonia, plasma amino acids, nutritional intake, and neurological status. [Pg.165]

A general amino acid permease (GAP) transports all of the amino acids. The ammonium ion inhibits and represses the GAP. The GAP therefore only appears to be active during the second half of fermentation, when the must no longer contains ammonium. It acts as a nitrogen scavenger towards amino acids (Cartwright et al, 1989). [Pg.72]
