The phycobionts, of Peltigera virescens (Watanabe and Kiyohara, 1963) and Collema tenax (Henriksson, 1951), have been shown to fix nitrogen when isolated and fixation can be assumed to take place in the lichen. The first definitive demonstration of fixation by an intact lichen thallus was by Bond and Scott (1955) who used Ng and tested CollemagranosumsindLeptogium lichenoides. [Pg.297]
