Nicotine tachyphylaxis

A decrease in reactivity to NIICR agents is noticed after reapplication on the following day (Lahti and Maibach 1985b). This tachyphylaxis phenomenon is not specific to the substance that produces it, and reactivity to other agents also decreases. The length of the refractory period is 4 days for methyl nicotinate, 8 days for diethyl fumarate and cinnamic aldehyde, and 16 days for benzoic acid, cinnamic acid and dimethyl sulfoxide. [Pg.223]
