Nicotine in smoking cessation

As nicotine (and smoking) can increase both heart rate and blood pressure and increase the risk of coronary artery disease it may be thought that treatment with further nicotine in smoking cessation programmes would, at least in the early stages when subjects are still smoking, exacerbate the situation. At least this seems not to be the case when moderate doses of nicotine are given via skin patches. [Pg.245]
