It is also likely that certain antigens have optimal durations of fixation. It has been shown that for the immunohistological demonstration of estrogen receptor, a minimum fixation time of 6-8 hrs in formalin is required for consistent results (Goldstein et al 2003). This minimum time is particularly critical in small biopsies and needle cores which tend to receive insufficient or weak initial formaldehyde fixation followed by extraction/fixation in ethanols used for dehydration in the tissue processor, resulting in inconsistent demonstration of some tissue antigens. [Pg.85]

Benzo[c]cinnoline is a weakly basic compound (Section IV,A), crystallizing from water or cyclohexane in yellow, monoclinic needles of m.p. 156" C. It is very soluble in alcohols, ether, etc. An X-ray crystallographic study has shown the molecule to be only approximately planar, forming molecular pairs with opposed dipoles in the solid state dimerization also takes place in solution at low temperature. It is found that bonds 1—2, 3—4, 7—8, and 9—10 are shorter than the others of the benzene rings, indicating a degree of bond fixation with 1 as the preferred Kekule structure. [Pg.168]

Wound the distal tailfins see Note 3) with the tip of a 25 -gauge needle see Fig. la-d). Attempt to make wounds of uniform size, as different-sized wounds will result in differing degrees of inflammatory response Note 4). Make note of the time of wounding for accurate fixation time points. [Pg.158]

Dinitrogen Complexes and Nitrogen Fixation.—Nitrogenase from Azotobacter vinelandii has been purified and the molybdoferrodoxin protein crystallized as needles.A molybdenum-containing peptide of mol. wt. ca. 1000 has been isolated from this system and shown to contain at least ten naturally occurring amino-acids, with leucine and isoleucine being most prominent molybdenum is present as both Mo " and Tungsten has been incorporated into... [Pg.128]

C5H, 1N3O3, Mr 161.16, needles, mp. 203 - 205 °C, [aJu +9.4° (H2O). A strongly antifungal azoxy compound from cultures of Bacillus cereus. A. inhibits sulfur fixation in methionine biosynthesis. [Pg.68]

Once the procedure has been performed the dressing pack and needles should be disposed of safely as quickly as possible, to avoid the child fixating on the needle. There should be abundant praise for the child and appropriate reward. [Pg.57]

Using a micromanipulator for moving two platinum needle electrodes (1 - 100 pm in diameter at the end) two larger cells can be contacted by a slight mechanical pressure[9,11] or by dielectrophoresis[10] which works for large particles in higher salt medium, too. Moreover suction capillaries are helpful for cell fixation if one of the electrodes should penetrate the membrane (Figure 3). [Pg.230]
