Nectria episphaeria

Figure 1 shows the UV absorption spectrum of cephalochromin, a bis-napthopyrone metabolite of Nectria episphaeria see Fig. 6 for structure). This illustrates how distinctive (and thus diagnostic) a UV-absorbance profile can be for certain compound classes, particularly those containing a substantial number of conjugated carbon-carbon double bonds or aromatic rings.
