Nature, occurrence and industrial relations implications of OHS issues 

The relatiorrship enjoyed between the employer and the employee will have a significant bearing on the effectiveness of safety progrartrmes. 

The essential factor is the credibihty both parties perceive in the objectives of the particular programme. It could be argued that in matters affecting the well-being of the workforce, safety is quarantined from the often adversarial nature of laboirr relations. 

This is not the case, and industrial pohtics often bring an influence to the management of safety and safety programmes. 

However, industrial issues over choice, empowerment, perception and commitment are likely to influence most workplaces and effective safety programmes must be designed to function in all enviromnents.
