Names Can Be Local or Global

When you assign a name to a cell or range in a workbook, the name is a global or workbook-level name. The name can be used in all sheets in the workbook. 

If you want to create a name that is a local or worksheet-level name, that is, one that is available only in a particular sheet, you can do so as described in the following box. 

To Assign a Local or Worksheet-Level Name to a Cell or Range 

First select the cell or range. (In this example Sheetl is the active sheet.) 

Choose Define... from the Name submenu to display the Define Name dialog box. Excel will propose a name in the Name box.
