N-Hexadecyl iodide

The catalytic effects of poly(3-methyl-l-vinylimidazolium iodide) poly(3-n-hexadecyl-l-vinylimidazolium iodide), and their monomeric analogs on the alkaline hydrolysis of a series of neutral and anionic nitro-phenyl esters were studied in order to elucidate the contribution of hydrophobic and electrostatic interactions to their esterolytic efficiency. 

B. Synthesis of Catalysts. 3-Methyl-1-vinylimidazolium iodide (VII-Cl) and 3-n-hexadecyl-l-vinylimidazolium iodide (VII-C16) were obtained by the quaternization of 1-vinyl imidazole with the corresponding n-alkyl-iodides, according to the method previously reported (15). 

Poly(3-methyl-l-vinylimT3 azolium iodide) (PVII-Cl) and poly(3-n-hexadecyl-l-vinylimidazolium iodide) (PVII-C16) were homopolymerized from their corresponding vinylimidazolium iodide monomers according to our previously reported method (15).

Gregory [62] found that long-chain alkyl halides such as n-octadecyl chloride, n-hexadecyl bromide and n-hexdecyl iodide at temperatures above their melting points gave stick-slip sliding on steel, which is to be expected of the chemically unreactive type of halogen in these compounds.
