Mushroom alkaloids muscimol

Muscimol is a toxic alkaloid of poisonous mushroom species, producing neurologic action. It is a potent depressant of the central nervous system. The adverse health effects from its ingestion include sleep, hallucination, distorted perceptions, and vomiting. [Pg.229]

On account of its high pharmacodynamic activity, ibotenic acid may be regarded as an essential component of the active principle of Amanita muscaria. This alkaloid, accompanied by related muscimol and musca-zone, has also been found in other mushrooms in which the occurrence of muscarines has not been recorded. [Pg.203]
