Munsell Color Company

The kukersites mined from the Estonia deposit have a light chocolate-brown colour in dry condition (10YR 6/4, i.e., light yellowish brown Munsell Color Company 1994), with a conchoidal fracture oblique to the lamination. The density is less than 2.1 g/cm3, but varies depending on the content of clastic material and carbonate minerals versus organic matter. [Pg.267]

Color Charts. The colors of pigments can be routinely measured by visual comparison with color charts like the one issued by the Munsell Color Company. This method may achieve a high precision because of the eye s sensitivity to small (relative) color changes. Of paramount importance for reliable application is a uniform light source. The major drawback of the method is that the resolution of color assignments is limited by the resolution of the color chips (see 3.2.3). Interpolation between chips is possible in principle, but difficult in practice as it has to be done in a three-dimensional space. [Pg.32]

There are two common methods of matching colors by the Munsell procedure, by the use of specially prepared chips of known hue, chroma, and value, and by spinning discs made by allocating wedge-shaped percentages of the disc area to specified papers supplied by the Munsell Color Company. This is an important asset to the Munsell system. Not only can the papers be evaluated in terms of C.I.E. quantities, but where color matches have been made, the color can then be reproduced and seen by any observer without reference to the original sample, the color of which was under examination. [Pg.322]
