Morphology bulk crystals

The crystalline NaCl-deposits formed outside of the Knudsen cells showed different morphology. Besides bulk crystals, mainly dendrites but also whiskers were formed. 

Thin crystals of /c-(BEDT-TTF)2Cu[(N(CN)2Br], a 2D metal with Tc = 11.6 K at ambient pressure, which forms bulk crystals with a parallelepiped morphology in standard EC experiments, have also been obtained with CEC displaying the same transition (Deluzet et al., 2002b).

The morphology of a crystallizable polymer is a description of the forms that result from crystallization and the aggregation of crystallites. The various morphological features which occur in bulk crystallized polymers are reviewed in this section.

The second factor can lead to nanocrystals adopting different morphologies to bulk crystals, with different exposed lattice planes leading to an extraordinary surface chemistry and catalytic activity [14]. The importance of surfaces and boundaries in nanocrystalline systems is demonstrated in Figure 4.1, which shows the fraction of atoms in these regions as a function of grain size.
