Morphological differences

Temperature also affects production rates but, through its influence on the thermal expansion of water, it also induces changes in the depth of vertical mixing and resistance to wind-stirring processes. Reactions to temperature of other components of the food chain are also important in the regulation of phytoplankton biomass by consumers. Different phytoplankton species, with important morphological differences, are differentiated selectively by the interplay of these factors. " ... [Pg.32]

In preliminary tests, melt mixed blends of PP and LCP were processed at six different temperatures (Tcyi 230, 240, 250, 260, 270, and 280°C) with a Brabender Plasti-Corder PLE 651 laboratory single-screw extruder. The measured melt temperatures were about 10°C higher than the cylinder temperatures (Tcyi). The objective was to study the influence of temperature on the size and shape of the dispersed LCP phase. Two different polypropylenes were used to ascertain the effect of the viscosity of the matrix on the final morphology. Different draw ratios were obtained by varying the speed of the take-up machine. [Pg.625]

OCDD caused embryotoxicity but was not teratogenic at 500 mg/ kg/day. OCDD and 2,7-DCDD caused neither teratogenicity nor embryotoxicity at 100 mg/kg/day. Khera and Ruddick (7) reported that the administration of 2 mg 2,7-DCDD/kg/day was associated with microscopic myocardial and pericardial lesions in rat fetuses. However, examination of sections of myocardium and pericardium from fetuses of dams treated with 100 mg doses in this study revealed no morphological differences from controls. [Pg.68]

Western Australia, as one might have expected. This observation was in agreement with conclusions drawn on the basis of morphological differences (Omduff, 1974). [Pg.188]

There is also some evidence for morphological differences between DRN and MRN neurons which could impinge on their function. Thus, the terminals of neurons from the DRN are relatively fine, unmyelinated, branch extensively and seem to make no specialised synaptic contacts, suggesting en passant release of 5-HT (type I). In contrast,... [Pg.189]

The catalytic tests show that, over the Pt(l 0 0)/Al2O3 catalyst, the formation of CO and NH3 is largely prevented, whereas the yield of N2O increases compared with the Pt(polycrystalline)/Al203 catalyst. These main differences observed should be ascribed to the morphological differences between two catalysts, i.e., the dominant orientation of the crystallographic facets and the average size... [Pg.305]

When choosing sampling locations and methods, take into account the factors which influence the crop, e.g., the plant morphology, differences in plant growth, the way the plot was treated, etc., all of which have an influence on the distribution of residues both on individual plants and in the trial plot as a whole. The actual material required to produce a field sample can be selected, as a rule, by one of the following methods ... [Pg.185]

EPM > CO > TP > CB. The highly crystalline TB had an etch rate about six times that of CB, ascribable to a morphology difference, while the partially crystalline TO had an etch rate somewhat higher than that of amorphous CO. Cis/trans content had little or no effect on the etch rate of the polyalkenamers. A mechanism involving crosslinking through vinyl units is proposed to explain the unexpected protection imparted to vinylene-rich polybutadienes by the presence of 1,2 double bonds. [Pg.342]

The data of Table II indicate that the etch rates for CB and its "homologues"—TP, CO (or TO), and EPM—tend to increase monotonically with a decrease in vinylene (-CH=CH-) unsaturation. The elastomeric EPM was chosen instead of crystalline polyethylene as a model for the fully saturated CB to avoid a morphology factor in etch rates, as was observed with crystalline TB. The difference in etch rates for the partially crystalline TO and the elastomeric CO (ratio of about 1.2 1.0) is attributable more to a morphology difference between these polyoctenamers than to the difference in their cis/trans content. Cis/trans content had likewise no perceptible effect on etch rates in the vinyl-containing polybutadienes (see Table I) if there was a small effect, it was certainly masked by the dominant effect of the vinyl groups. [Pg.348]

The majority of TMN cells are large neurons (25-30 xm) small and mediumsized neurons are also present. Based on this morphological difference, Ericson and colleagues (Ericson et ah, 1987) divided the TMN nucleus into various subdivisions. [Pg.148]
