A sulfate of the dimer does crystallize from sulfuric acid solutions [38], but a1 NMR shows that, when crystals are dissolved in pure water, the monomer [A1(0H2)6] and a trimer of unknown structure form, at the expense of the dimer [19]. Solution dilution leads directly and rapidly to the [Ali304(0H)24 (OH2)i2] [19,20] polycation (see below).
