Reader can note that the upper and lower bounds on the central region correspond to the characteristics computed from Eq. (C.8) starting at x(0) = 0. The weights and abscissas for this case have a simple form  

However, note that the number of abscissas changes at the points where the characteristics cross. As pointed out earlier, crossing characteristics lead to mixing of the initial NDF.
